Reviews
The train service is accurate to the second. Anticipating is always recommended as at the entrance there is document control, tickets and luggage are scanned as at the airport. There are monitors with various indications of trains arriving and driving. Entrance to the platforms is allowed only for those who have a ticket. In the station there are kiosks with various food needs and much more. Excellent booking service 12 GO. Do not throw away your ticket at the start as they will have to scan it again at the exit
I booked tickets from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang through an agency. About 4 days before departure I received an email telling me I had to collect the tickets with my passport at a restaurant next to the train station at least one hour before departure. I was a little nervous as it seemed unusual, but our hotel seemed to know this routine and set up a tuk-tuk driver to take us to the restaurant and onto the train station. It was a very smooth process. You don't even go into the restaurant as the train ticket outlet is in the front of the building.
The whole process went very smoothly. the journey took just a bit more than the 2 hours stated but it was of no consequence to me. At Vientiane station, gates opened about an hour before departure time, as stated, which allowed me to have some food at the excellent inside station cafe/restaurant; boarding was very orderly and well managed, train left exactly on time, i had a window seat which allowed me to see some spectacular views along the route, there was an unexplained stop for about 20 mins in the last half hour of the ride
I had no problem purchasing the tickets online. The menus were easy to understand and I was able to choose the best tickets for my trip. The company sent confirmation notices as well as QR codes that worked at the stations. NOTE: Make sure you check ALL of the emails they send because sometimes there's a sudden schedule change. I was lucky I checked but in the future they should mark schedule changes as IMPORTANT! Overall, I was happy with the service and would use it again. bus from Vientiane to V.V, train from VV to LPB,
If you are travelling between Luang Prabang and Vientiane this is your best solution. Fast and reasonably priced. We were travelling north to south and almost booked the bus (between 4 & 6 hours) from Luang Prabang before we discovered this great alternative. The train is modern and fast (150 - 160kph). It is popular so bookings are recommended. We traveled 2nd class both times which was comfortable and we had room for our packs in the overhead luggage area. The trip from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng
